When you're looking for something fun that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Release Date: October 29, 1999
Starring: Geoffrey Rush, Famke Janssen, Taye Diggs, Ali Larter, Peter Gallagher, Bridgette Wilson, Chris Kattan
Genre: Supernatural horror
Plot Summary: In the 1930's, a group of patients inside a psychiatric hospital escape, killing everyone inside but five staff members. Years later, Stephen Price throws a birthday party in that same asylum (now renovated as a house) for his wife, Evelyn. The house goes into lockdown on its own, making it impossible for the guests to leave. As the night goes on, they unravel the mysteries the house is keeping, while trying their best to survive.
Favorite Scene: Price invites an unsuspecting reporter (Lisa Loeb) and her camera man (James Marsters) to check out his new rollercoaster.
Favorite Quote: "You know, if you really love me, you'll find a way to drop dead in the next three seconds."
Notable Trivia: The character Stephen Price was named after Vincent Price, who starred in the original House on Haunted Hill.
Final Thoughts: Listen. Normally I wouldn't recommend a remake over the original, but I already have a couple William Castle films on this list (one starring Vincent Price) and I was trying to include a variety of different films. Yes, the original House on Haunted Hill is better. But the remake is a lot of fun...Until the ending. It kind of falls apart once that wall is broken.
